MATCH RULES



Firearm Requirements

  • Handgun: Any single stack, single action 1911 style semi-auto pistol in 45 ACP caliber.

  • No barrel porting or compensators or other recoil reducing devices.

  • Sight may not be optical or fiber optic.  Colored inserts or dots are permitted.

  • Magazine wells may be beveled, but may not be oversized, extended or flared.  

  • Bull barrels are not allowed.

  • No target grip or thumb rest.

  • Standard length magazines cannot hold more than 8 rounds.

  • No extended base pads on magazines.



  • Rifle:  Any SASS legal main match rifle.
     

  • Shotgun: Any SASS legal shotgun, or 1897 military style.

 


 

Ammunition

  • Handgun: Lead only, no jacketed ammunition. Minimum power factor: 150,  Maximum velocity 1000fps.
     

  • Rifle:  Lead only no jacketed ammunition.  Minimum power factor: 150  Maximum velocity 1400fps.
     

  • Shotgun: Standard velocity #6 lead birdshot shot or smaller.





Classes/Shooting Styles

Duelist Class:

  • Must be shot one handed unsupported.  Weak hand may be used for loading, racking slide, and in case of gun malfunctions.  

Traditional Class:

  • Shot using a two handed grip on the pistol.

Holsters, Cartridge Belts, Magazine Pouches, and Bandoliers

  • Holsters and magazine pouches must be of traditional or military design and made from traditional materials, (e.g., canvas or leather).

  • The holster must cover the entire length of the barrel and completely cover ejection port. No open front speed holsters allowed.

  • If a holster has a flaps or strap they need not be closed during competition.

  • No metal or plastic "competition" type equipment allowed.

  • No shoulder or cross-draw holsters may be used during competition.

  • Magazine pouches must be worn vertical.

  • Magazine pouches can hold either 1 or 2 magazines.

  • At least 2 inches of the magazine must be covered by the magazine pouch.

  • All other SASS regulations pertaining to these items apply.

Costuming

  • Any SASS legal costuming is appropriate.

  • Period US military from 1900 to 1916 is allowed.  Period western dress is allowed such as Pike, Dutch, Lyle or Tector in the closing scene of the Wild Bunch movie.   






Shooting procedure Rules and Penalties

1911 PISTOL

  • The 1911 pistol must be restaged safely at the end of each shooting string with the slide locked open, unless the 1911 is the last firearm engaged. It may contain an empty magazine or no magazine when restaged. (Failure to comply, SDQ.  per current SASS rules the shooter has until engaging the next firearm to correct without penalty)

  • Magazines shall be loaded with only 5 rounds. (Overloading MSV)

  • Shooter may take the number of loaded magazines the stage requires plus extras.

  • Dropped, loaded or unloaded, magazines may not be picked up until the stage is completed.

  • When moving with the 1911 in your hand the slide must be locked open and the trigger finger must be outside the trigger guard. (trigger finger MSV, slide closed SDQ)

  • Changing magazines on the move is allowed as long as the slide remains locked open and the trigger finger remains out of the trigger guard until at least one foot reaches the shooting position. (trigger finger MSV, slide closed SDQ)

  • At the end of the stage the 1911 must be cleared on the firing line. Under the supervision of the RO the magazine will be removed, slide cycled if not locked open, and chamber checked. Then the slide is closed to battery the trigger is pulled and hammer dropped before holstering. (Failure to comply SDQ)

SHOTGUNS:

  • Pump Shotgun magazines may be loaded with up to the correct number of rounds for the target sequence. Any additional rounds needed for targets must be loaded from the body. (Overloading MSV)

  • Loaded pump shotguns shall be staged with the action closed, hammer down on an empty chamber. (Failure to comply SDQ)

  • SXS shotguns will be loaded on the line at the R/O’s direction. They may be loaded with 2 rounds, and staged at the firing line with the action open.

  • All other SASS rules pertaining to firearms are in effect.

 


 

Loading Table operations/procedures

Operations at the loading table:

  • Pistol shall be shown clear and then the slide closed to battery, hammer lowered. A magazine with 5 rounds shall be inserted into the 1911, and the pistol will be holstered  NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER (Failure to comply SDQ)

  • Magazines for the 1911 may be loaded with ammunition at the shooters gun cart, or the loading table. Loaded magazines may be carried on the shooters person any time

  • A loaded magazine SHALL NEVER BE INSERTED INTO THE PISTOL UNTIL THE SHOOTER IS AT THE LOADING TABLE, AND UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE LOADING TABLE OFFICER. The penalty for not adhering to this rule is a MATCH DISQUALIFICATION.

  • Rifle loaded as per normal SASS rules



  • 1897 pump action shotguns will have the action closed on an EMPTY chamber, and the magazine loaded with up to the number of shotgun rounds needed to complete the stage.



  • SXS shotguns will NOT be loaded at the loading table. They will only be loaded and staged on the line at the direction of the R/O.





Unloading table operations/procedures

Operations at the unloading table:

  • Pistol: The shooter will remove the 1911 from the holster, and show the unloading table officer the pistol with the slide locked back and no magazine in the gun. On the approval of the unloading table officer the slide shall be placed in battery, the hammer lowered, and the pistol reholstered.

  • Ammunition: remaining in magazines need not be unloaded.



  • Rifle: As per standard SASS rules.



  • Shotgun: SXS shotguns checked per standard SASS rules. 1897 pump action shotguns will be cleared in accordance per standard SASS rules. Special care should be given to check the magazine tube for any live rounds.
